I got an new car and a new job starting tomorrow.

(This is not my new car.)

For my OnTour weblog I wanted to publish a few photos. Therefore I had to pick a few Photos from my Library (iPhoto) and resize a copy of each of them to publish it later.
On my Windows Box I would have used Irfan View’s Batch Rename Tool.
But on my Mac things are a bit different and as I finally recognised much easier and very intuitive.

I did the following:
I openend the Automator (which I never used before) and combined the Actions „Ask for Photos“ + „Scale Images“. Then Automator asked me if I want to scale the original files or a copy. I choosed „a copy“, and automatically I got the additional action „Copy Finder Items“. Then I tweaked at the size and the location properties of the actions.

Finally I hit the Play button, and everything worked as I expected. Honestly, first I didn’t expect that this workflow would work right, but it did.

I think almost every user is able to make such a workflow. It’s really easy and extremely powerful.

Every time I recognise such a very good and easy Mac feature I wonder why the „Windows world“ is often such complicated and awkward when things and tasks can be so easy.

Every software developer should keep in mind that software should make things easier. If you have no idea what easiness is, buy a Mac!

After my 1 month ‚timeout‘ I’m back home again. Hopefully I can manage it to update my ‚OnTour‘ blog in the next few days. Simply said – this was way too much work during my vacation.

BTW: My first impression at home was a Windows blue screen at the baggage claim info screen at munich airport. Should I treat this as a sign?

Ob ich waehrend meiner Reise Eintraege in den OnTour Blog schreiben werde, entscheidet sich vermutlich erst vor Ort…..

Normalerweise versuche ich ja mich hier aus politischen Diskussionen raus zu halten, aber dieses Zitat (auf orf.at gefunden) finde ich wirklich genial:

Irgendwie gehen mir gewisse Firmen ein wenig auf die Nerven. IKEA zum Beispiel. Die „DUzen“ naemlich immer. Und der Vorteilsclub wirbt mit ‚HEJ‘. Aber das ist eigentlich gar nicht so schlimm.

Schlimmer ist da schon Saturn.
Deren Werbestrategie mit dem alles ist geil nervt mich schon ziemlich. Heute hab ich noch dazu folgene Meldung gefunden, als ich mir auf deren Homepage die Konsolen ansehen wollte:

Dieses Produkt ist grad nicht vorhanden. Wir arbeiten dran. Datenbankbefuellen ist geil!

Dass man in der Vorweihnachtszeit die Datenbank mit den Produkten nicht mal halbwegs auf aktuellem Stand halten kann, ist eine Sache. Aber dann noch so eine „Fehlermeldung“ gibt mir den Rest.

Ich will mich informieren, welche Produkte zu welchen Preisen verfuegbar sind. Darum hab ich die Seite aufgerufen. Ich will Informationen! Und wenn schon keine verfuegbar sind, dann wuensche ich mir keine mit schlechten Slogans aufgepeppten Halb-Entschuldigungen.

Aber eigentlich mag ich das ganze Image vom Saturn nicht. Gut dass man auch woanders kaufen kann (und vor allem guenstiger). Aber der Bloedmann ist auch nicht besser.
